When searching the web for Carter BB-2, nothing comes up, only BB-1 and BBR (BBR-2s). Hemmings has an article from 2011 describing BB 1, 2 and 3 size units. The BB size 2 has a 1 1/4-inch bore with a 211/16-inch mounting base. Is that describing the BB-2? Where is the serial number located to get a rebuild kit. | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,061 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,061 | Hy Patina 54, welcome and Merry Christmas. I did some research last night and the Carter updraft seems to have fallen through the cracks even in most of my GM parts books. I did find one book that listed the carb and luckily the manufacturers part number for it, the number they referenced was BB1-871-SC. Once I had a part number I found a carburetor kit listed at the Carburetor Doctor, their part number CK476 $39.95, hope that helps. | | | | Joined: Sep 2018 Posts: 38 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2018 Posts: 38 | And a Merry Christmas to you. Thanks for the lookup and info. I have a lot to learn about the '55 1st series 5700 COE. | | | | Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,538 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,538 | 1954, and 55 1st series Chevrolet COEs, came standard with a Carter model 2075 updraft carburetor. The Carter model 871s, were on 50-53 models. Main difference is, the 2075s face forward, because of the air cleaner being under the hood, versus the 871 carb., facing rearward, because of the air cleaner being mounted under the cab floor. | | | | Joined: Aug 2018 Posts: 206 Moderator, Great Lakes Bolters | Moderator, Great Lakes Bolters Joined: Aug 2018 Posts: 206 | Spanky, Great info. Next question is....where would we find a Carter model 2075 to purchase? I don't believe the one that Patina54 has will be able to be rebuilt.
