Anybody know if there was such a thing from the factory? Mine had four strips (each about 3/4" wide) screwed around the perimeter of the rectangular-shaped opening but no boot material whatsoever. I'm assuming there was one from the factory or the previous owner attempted to install one after the fact?
You don't state what year your truck is. My 1950 COE had a canvas boot held in place by the four strips you mention. This is along the cab floor under the seat, so you don't see the boot unless you remove the seat. There is a leather boot lace that ties around the shifter. I think I may have a picture stored on another computer, but getting ready for Christmas eve lunch for family right now so will try to find and post it later.
The hole and retaining ring on mine is square or rectangle and I haven't seen a boot in the normal catalogues. I'm thinking I'll have to use a transfer case boot or newer big truck shifter boot. 1957 Chevy 5700 with SM420

Canvas boot on my 54/55 COE - I had enough old boot to have a sailmaker match it. He was so slow in getting it done that he said :"no charge". I gave him a gift-payment.
Thx all for your replies, sorry...truck is 1951 5700 COE with SM420. Would appreciate any pics anyone has! I was considering ordering a rectangular one from Lokar as that's what I ended up using for the parking brake boot when I couldn't find new/replacement for. Merry Christmas all!
Here is the only picture I have (I am away from the shop so cannot take better and more detailed photos). You can see in the lower right corner the olive green canvas boot extending around the shift assembly, tied by a leather boot string. It is anchored on the underside of the floor by the previously mentioned (and unseen) metal strips. I only had remnants of the original to go from so had to guess on dimensions but it is functional, keeping dirt and chipmunks from easily entering the space under the seat.
