For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 23 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 23 | First off, I did do a search, but did not find exactly the information I was looking for. My 51 has an 8 lug rear axle that was mounted under the springs. I am replacing that rear with a standard 10 bolt passenger car rear to gain better gearing and 5 lug pattern. While I'm at it, I want to lower the truck. I'm leaning towards flipping the axle to mount on top of the springs, but there doesn't seem to be enough clearance with the frame to do this. Will I need to c-notch the frame if I go this route? Secondly I found something you guys might find interesting. These lowering blockes are adjustable, and may be just the ticket to centering the wheel in the fender opening. It certainly would be the easiest solution to the problem that I have come across. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/xq/aspx/display_id.2153/qx/Product.htm | | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 158 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 158 | Cool blocks. Almost as easy as springs with the pin offset, like you can get from Eaton Detroit Spring.

Of course it all depends upon your overall goals I guess. Back to my main reason for writing this post, can anyone provide help on the process of lowering the rear? Maybe some links? I'm a visual person, so pictures would help! Thanks guys! | | |
