thankyou both. kevinski , thankyou i didnt know i could get a carb but do you know if it will hold the 228 oil bath as well where do i look, thankyou somuch
GMC 228 intake/exhaust manifolds will not fit Chevrolet 235.
I don't think that elongating the holes on the 228 carb so it will fit the 235 intake is a great idea. George (Wrenchbender Ret,) said he has seen it done but he stopped short of recommending it. He said you will lose power.
So, I think you should live with the carb that came with the 235. If it's an automatic choke model you can get a manual choke conversion kit. Or, you can get another carb. If you want to get another carb, you might want to consider a Carter. There are knowledgeable members of this forum who will tell you that the Rochester is inferior to the Carter. There's plenty of discussion on this topic you can read - use the search feature.
What year of truck do you have and I assume it is a gmc .I see you are from B/C ,the reason I ask is because if your truck is a Canadian model it may have had a 216 in it not a 228 .
kevinski, thankyou for reply. my truck is 1952 gmc bought in las angeles. i have all the paper for truck sense new. you right it was 228 and i had a cracked bloak my fault as well. made me sick.so started to look for a 228 before i found one i got busy for years . last year i turned 70 and thought if i dont do it now i may not get a chance. so got lucky found a 235 and went with it. had it rebuilt and went to install it found it 1.5 inches to short. this is when i found about usa gmc model trucks verses chev. i should have researched it more. got smart and found this forum which has been si much help form all you folks. trucks runs great drives nice im very happy. but i still want manual choke and throttle cable plus ability to use oil bath. mean while ill install manual choke kit gord suggested.im still looking for a 228 if i find a good one ill start over. just a matter of switching.
The Rochester carb for a 235 and oil bath air cleaner .Note the 235 carb is larger than a 216 carb they look the same but the measurement between the mounting studs are different
ok my original carb is a 228 off a 228 number 11147. i longgated the holes to fit manifold.im going to give it a try. but if i read right i can buy same carter with a 3 inch spread bebween hold down bolts.ill see how it runs before a buy new carb . its 600 us thats 800 for me lol. ill hook gas line with rubber fuel lines to carb beofore i go through trouble of remaking both fuel line a nd vacuum.it was good enough for 228 cu in so do you all think it can handle 235 cu in.
GMC engines came in other displacements, if you are looking for another engine-236, 248, 256, 270, 302. They all look the same except the SN starts with the displacement, so one of these would fit your engine compartment, too.
