Hello, I recently swapped my (1947) 216 for a (1954) 235 in my 47 Chevy fleetline. One of the last things I need before I get her on the road is that I need pictures of the gas pedal linkage to the carburetor. The swivel point on the 235 is about 3 inches shorter than on the 216. If someone can help me out with some nice pictures where I can see the swivel point on the engine, the linkage setup, I would really appreciate it. I haven't been able to find any good ones on the internet. Thanks for any help beforehand.

You might want to post the year of your 235.

A pre-53 235 might have the swivel point in the same location as a 216?

Classics,
I recently swapped my 216 for a newer 235. I was able to utilize the same linkage from the carb to the swivel point on the block. I did have to shorten the rod from the pedal to the swivel point. Just measure, measure a second time and cut the rod. Don’t forget to leave a 3/8 extra. You’ll need to heat and bend that 3/8 to a 90 degree bend for the swivel connection. Then drill a hole for the cotter pin.

Hi Jim, thanks, I just cut the rod midway and will weld it once I figure out the setup of the linkage. I want to mock it up first and make sure everything is smooth, ill wait for a nice picture from one of the members just to make sure everything is correct. Its cold and raining in Northern California so im not in too much of a hurry. Thanks again.

Where is this Eureka, you talk about? LOL I use to live in Cutten, way many years ago while in college. I think my throttle linkage was cut and welded when we switched from a`216 to a 235.

I actually did a bit of trial and error to get my linkage to work in my car. Just took patience. Which i very little of ... lol

As is usually the case, nobody can view your Photobucket pictures. Links and random surveys block access. Instructions for posting photos directly to Stovebolt are in the left margin of every page and are very easy to use. Even a complete computer dummy like me can do it.🛠

Thanks for everybody's help, With your pictures I was able to figure it out. Now im very close to getting her back on the road smile I simply needed to bend the linkage going to the carburetor a bit to adjust for the shorter throw. The coupler is temporary until I find the perfect position. Ill mark it, and weld it.

Glad to see you are getting there. Some time, if you don't know yet, get the year of your 235 for future motor mods. I run a '63 235 in my green turd.

My question is, what is the skinny on what year was the pivot changed for the 235 engine in trucks?
Some of us have put car engines in our trucks. Are there differences in pivot points between truck and car engines?

Yes, it's interesting to see all the different ways to run a throttle linkage.

Here's the difference in blocks: http://chev235guy.blogspot.com/search/label/216%20235%20Throttle%20Pivot%20Positions

I have the 1962 block. It uses the pivot point by the frost plug. The linkage was modified to suit.

Your green turd, hahaha, that's a loving nickname. I actually recently bought this engine from a fellow stovebolter after the original 216 spun a rod bearing. Its a 1954 235 he completely rebuilt and delivered to me. Same front motor mounts made installing it easier. Used my old bell housing. The exhaust manifold is the angled type instead of the horizontal type so ill have to get the pipe re-bent. Other than that, she's pretty much ready to roll. Already ran her for a few seconds (after manually running the oil pump. Does anybody know how to time these engines? Is it just by feel, or can you put the timing gun to the flywheel? I also have the head off of a 1960 235 that should give me about 15 more horsepower due to the higher compression. It would need to be rebuilt, might swap it out in the future for a few more ponies.

That pickup is beautiful, I have seen it in person as is the 47. You are one lucky fellow. Take a picture of the timing marks on the flywheel and post. You will want to shoot for 5 degrees before tdc. Hook the timing light to a spare 12 volt battery and connect to the number 1 and shoot for the 5bdc mark on the flywheel. click on the link below

Holyshizzle! She’s a beauty Clark!! I love the Art Deco and I seen that paint theme somewhere else if I recall correctly. Nice choice.
Do you have a photo file of her somewhere? Love to see more of her!

Wow, that's a beautiful '47 Aerosedan you got there! A good inspiration for me--I've got a '46 Aerosedan in my garage, a long-term project. I've got a '53 Powerglide 235 in the shop right now getting rebuilt for it, so I'll be going through the same process in getting it set up. I'll also be rebuilding the 3 speed and the front suspension. Thanks for the pics--nice to see more Stovebolt-powered cars on here, in addition to the trucks!

Oh, a 46, sweet. I love the side molding that goes from the back all the way up the hood. I wish the 47-48s had that too. Put up some pictures when done. I hope you don't have much trouble getting it in the bay. Let me know if you have any trouble. I probably went through it, though it wasn't too much of a hassle in the end. Your not at this point yet, but if your front motor mount holes (timing chain cover) don't line up with the frame motor mounts, I made a jig that you can bolt on and helps to make the new motor mount holes. I hope I explained it well. But you'll see later.

Thanks Glen. I was driving it quite a bit until the 216 gave out, it ran nice and smooth, but those babbited bearings coupled with the very low oil pressure made one of them wear out. It took me a while to find a nice 235 to replace it. But now im about 1-2 weeks from getting it back on the road, and trust me, im going to drive it, perhaps a nice long drive when spring comes. Ill definitely post pictures. I bought it out of north Dakota, but it must have been driven seldom because it had very little rust, and most everything on it was original to the car. Im proud to own it and cant imagine ever getting rid of her.

Well actually I've drove it for 3years with the 216. Alitta smoke and alotta leaks, but didn't run bad. The clutch decided to crap out and 2nd gear was noisy. I put a 261 with a 235 head on it that I had waiting. I also put another 3 speed in it out of a 49. Wanted to keep the column shifter. Pertronix ignition, 12 volt with a generator, relocated oil filter, splits and duals. Also put 3.55s out a powerglide car. Standard trans had 4.11 i believe. Only two options to keep the torque tube. I been driving it this way for another 3 years or so. Yea, door dings and rock chips go unnoticed to say the least. Lol
