I have looked at most published engine reference charts, but have been unable to find my alphabet letters that apply. LAY 537525 stamped on the block behind the distributor. Head number is 3835913 GM17. The LAY reference is what I can't find. Any help would be appreciated....

Here is list of codes that I put on-line many years ago.

thanks for your response. I have researched the LAY on the internet with no success. I have seen reference to LAV, but can't find the "Y" anywhere. The head numbers I'm not concerned about, because this is my replacement head for a cracked original head when I had the engine rebuilt. Engine rebuild was done as a 53 - 235.

That "Y" could just be am mis-stamped "V".

Let see if someone can come up with a "Y" code meaning?

someone else had a very clear Z in an engine number a while back, clear photos too, it was not a mistake
nothing could be found about it, i would not doubt any letter with long lost meaning could exist in engine stampings
