I am new to Stovebolt, so please move this question to the appropriate thread if needed. I inherited a 1955 First Series 3100 Chevrolet truck. It had this unit located inside of the cab under the dash. I want to restore it but was wondering if anyone could tell me if it’s a heater or a heater/cooler. There wasn’t a heater switch inside of the cab and the wire to the unit was just hanging there. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I have a heater very similar to it. There are only 2 wires. The positive normally has a resister on it to control the fan speed. On my 51, I must turn the flow of fluid on under the hood via petcock (sp?). Mine heats great with a 12v motor in it. Chris
I am hoping to get mine working. I am converting my truck to a 12v system but might leave the heater a 6v unless I can find someone who can convert the motor to a 12v. Ndkid275 do you have pics of yours installed in your ride.
The motor should have a 12-volt equivalent available at Grainger Supply, remove it and take it in with you if there is one close by. Failing that take it into a local motor supply vendor for a match. That should be an easy change looking at the clamp arrangement. Not sure what aftermarket brand that one is? Does it have a tag on it or brand I.D.
It is a VDO PM351. (Siemens). AutoZone has it for $14.95. Some stores have it in stock, some may charge ship.
Search that PN and buy where it's best for you. Lot's of places have it. This Part Number is assuming your heater is original era. The good news is it seems you just clamp it on, so don't care too much about mounting studs or motor length or shaft length.
This motor is reversible. Red to hot, black to ground is CW. Reverse the wiring for CCW. You will need to find a switch.

Sorry Brad. Been working a lot lately and hadn’t had time to check this thread. Mine doesn’t have a brand name on it. ndkid, a photo of it installed would be nice. Would appreciate it.
