I was talking to a guy with a 53 chev and a 235 , seems his engine would would have water in the oil after being parked for some time outside.
The leak was traced to a leak around some fitting on the hood that allowed water to drip on the valve cover which had 4 slots in the top I guess for breathing purposes.
He replaced valve cover which solved the problem.
This might not be news to some , but it was to me!

| | | | | Joined: Feb 2019 Posts: 4,482 AD Addict & Tinkerer | | AD Addict & Tinkerer Joined: Feb 2019 Posts: 4,482 | The slots work in conjunction with the road draft tube to evacuate combustible vapors from the crankcase. The slots draw in fresh air and the road draft tube provides the vacuum.
As long as the replacement valve cover has a breather on the fill cap all is good. It the cap is not of the breather type, it could cause engine oil contamination, sludge build-up, oil leaks, high fuel consumption, and other engine-damaging problems.
If it was me, I would have fixed the leak!

I agree on fixing the leak but not my call. and yes he used a breather fill cap.
