The steering would bind and there was less than an inch of travel between between the axle and the oil pan. I took it apart and had the axle dropped. Took a while to fix all the problems with steering, rebound clearance, shocks, etc. It did lower it a lot though. Seems to me that'd screw the alignment up in about 3 different directions. But I physically didnt have enough room in between the axle and frame rails.(my front axle is from a 56' chevy) so instead I took apart the front leaf springs and assembled them in reverse so now the smaller leaf springs are on top instead of the bottom. it lowered the front end drastically. I put 3" lowering blocks in between the rear end and the leafs in the rear and the truck came out level... thank god.
