I ordered a rebuild kit from mikes carburetor and started taking it apart when the kit arrived. Then.... disassembly went smoothly until I tried removing the strainer plug under the float bowl. It absolutely will not budge I’ve been working on it for 3 days now and I’ve pretty much destroyed the slot. Tried heat and pb blaster knocking on it with a punch it just won’t move. Having the same problem removing the pump jet it will not move either. Any suggestions? I don’t know what to do at this point.

Once you have the airhorn (potmetal), bowl cover (potmetal), and the float removed from the carburetor; you can use an acetylene torch, and heat the CAST IRON AROUND THE PLUG until it is cherry-red. DO NOT QUENCH IN WATER!!!!! While still hot, carefully so as not to burn your selfself, unscrew the plugs.
All parts are available for that carburetor, including the plugs.

I wasn’t sure what the strainer was made of. So more heat should work on the pump jet too I assume. So where is the go to place for these small pieces like the plugs and such ?

As to parts, I would suggest whomever sold you the rebuilding kit would be your first call.
There are also other places that offer carburetor parts.

Kind of. I did get the plug out. But it is completely destroyed. It’s in 4 pieces and not very recognizable as a plug. So hopefully I can find a new plug I’m also in need of a new strainer and a new pump jet. Getting this carburetor rebuilt is the only thing stopping me from getting my engine running so I hope I don’t have to buy a new carburetor!

It showed up the other day and wow it is in excellent shape it’s almost better than the carb I was going to part it out for. it does have the parts I needed. I just am not sure what carb to use now ! But I suppose that’s a good problem for a change!
