This is a pretty cool truck: There is an interesting truck on YouTube, a '56 GMC 660 with a 4-71 Detroit and a 10-Speed Road Ranger. Truck looks like an 18 or 20 Ft Flatbed with Budd Wheels, what looks like 10-20 Tires and has Air Brakes. I have to say it's one of the coolest trucks I've ever seen. The truck also has a Factory Tach, but interestingly no Speedometer. Especially interesting to me is the RR Trans. It is an R-960, one I've never heard of and has a Shift Pattern that I've also never seen: R------1/6-----3/8 --------N-------- 5/10--2/7-----4/9 It's a long video, over 1 hr, but pretty interesting if anyone would like to check it out: GMC Truck 471 Detroit diesel coming back to life...

That is the smallest exhaust pipe I have ever seen on a diesel! Air brakes are a plus since parts are available. Relatively easy to sell flatbed and shorten frame in front of rear axle to make more maneuverable if that would be helpful. R-960 will probably be commented on by others, however parts are getting hard to find.
Greatfind, a good truck to get operating again.

'37 GMC T-18 w/ DD 4-53T, RTO-610, 6231 aux., '95 GMC running gear, full disc brakes, power steering, 22.5 wheels and tires.
'47 GMC 1 ton w/ 302, NP-540, 4wd, full width Blazer front axle.
'54 GMC 630 w/ 503 gasser, 5 speed, ex fire truck, shortened WB 4', install 8' bed.
'55 GMC 370 w/270, 420 4 speed, grain, dump bed truck from ND. Works OK.

In the meantime, pretty much like I figured, the Trans is an Overdrive. Yeah, a lot of the early diesels got that small Exhaust Pipe.

Those olé boy's found a nice old Jimmy.
My guess is, which was pretty common on fleet trucks to have a
Speedometer delete because they used a " Tach O Graph"
I'm sure you seen them.
Big box looking gage with a Clock and speedometer visible to the driver.
Used a key lock to open and inside was circular paper card that recorded
Time, speed, and stops.
Someone must have removed it or stole it.
They were neat looking.
