I believe I have a 235 block. Can someone verify by the cast numbers in the picture below?
Thank you.

That's a cylinder head casting number, not a block number. Post the number stamped behind the distributor, and/or the casting number on the block near the fuel pump. The head number isn't very helpful since they will interchange on several sizes of engines.

That is not the head casting code.

Here are the locations of various casting codes on high-pressure 54-63 235/261 engines.

Find and post the following:
1. Engine Serial Number
2. Head casting code
3. Head date casting code
4. Block casting code
5. Block date casting code

We will then be able to help you ID your engine.

Possibly 1957 235 with 3 speed.

The engine and the trans are not original. I have a 4 speed with a granny gear and I believe the engine is a 235 but I want to verify it.

Ok. I will look for the block casting code in the morning.

Good

And, the head casting code can be seen on the manifold side of the head, outside the valve cover.

JD1,

From the stamped serial number, FII7A, posted a couple messages back, it looks like a '57 serial number ( as Bart' suggested). It decodes to F= Flint plant, 1=January (I and 1's were sometimes interchanged), 17 = 17th day of the month, and A = standard 235. In an earlier posting, you showed the engine casting number - 3837004 - which was a 235 block casting used '55-'57. It's pretty certainly a '57 235, from those numbers.

Would be interesting to know the head casting number - driver's side, near the middle of the head, just outside the valve cover rail.

The casting date above the starter makes this a 1957 engine. And since there are no Captin bars above the starter, that makes this a 1957 235 .
