| | | | Joined: May 2013 Posts: 27 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2013 Posts: 27 | This has been driving me crazy. Replaced the Speedo head (old unit was frozen up) Still no joy. Cable is good Not broken or snagging turns freely by hand.
My question is this. I am not sure if the cable has been removed from the housing before. Which end of the cable goes to the speedo, The one with the retaining nut like end or the one without.
I have the correct small end attachment nut at the speedo. It also appears that the tail shaft gear may be damaged and not driving the cable. More trouble shooting ahead.
Steve | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,097 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,097 | You should be able to pull the inner cable out of the housing from the speedometer head end. It should have a small retaining washer on the upper end behind the square tip. The cable can be removed and lubed with a small amount of white grease on the lower 3/4 of the cable. The grease will work it's way up the cable. Remove the driven gear from the transmission and check it out.
