Just tore the Rochester Monojet down and put a rebuild kit on it after cleaning out the muck. Didn’t even have any parts leftover. Installed it, seemed like it was gonna work, but couldn’t keep it running. Looked after cranking and the carb covered in gas. inlet line appears tight and no leak (wrapped in paper towel and cranked-inside was dry.
Here’s a video of what’s happening. Seems to want to start then gas comes shooting up from the intake.
Just tried again and didn’t move the throttle. Same thing. Thinking I have a float problem??

You've either got the float and needle valve assembled wrong, or the float is hanging up on something. Did you set the float level and float drop per the instruction sheet in the kit? Just installing the parts is the easy part. ALL the adjustments must be done exactly right. A carburetor float chamber works exactly like a toilet tank- - - - -the liquid level must be adjusted right and it has to stay that way. Jerry

As I rebuilt mine, jerry’s Old [censored] swooped in from across the shed and corrected me because he could tell it was wrong. Sure enough through his blind and deafness, he was right (plenty of witnesses to back me up!). I’m still not sure how. Then he proceeded to school me by quoting the info sheet for float level and drop, along with the best instruction I have received to this day!
In other words, watch out he comes in with wisdom, drops the mike and walks out!
