Just wondering if anyone converted to power steering. I see conversion kits on Ebay for V8 1/2 tons that use a 1968 box with brackets. You have to cut the column and adapt I believe.

What engine/truck do you have? It is relatively easy to adapt Saginaw steering units, both inside and outside the frame. Different pitman arms allow fore and aft movement or left and right movement. One also must cut the shaft and housing and install a u-joint and support for the shaft and housing. The housing is usually terminated near the firewall.

Authentic Automotive has a direct bolt-on, no mod required kit. It replaced the drag link with a Corvette control valve and has all the brackets to connect the ram between the tie rod and the axle. https://authenticautomotive.net/new-products/ They work very well.

The Link to the website shows kits for 55-59 trucks, but not 47-55.1. Did I miss it? Or will the later kit work on AD's?

I guess it was me that missed it. I didn't see that you had a 53. The drag link is adjustable, so that's not a problem. The only differences I could see would be the hose routing. The set-up is pretty straight forward. You could fab your own brackets if you had to. I fabbed one to fit a 57 Napco and that was a bit more complicated!

Is anyone familiar with the electric power assist from Saturn Vue and similar vehicles? It’s already been done on AD trucks with great success. It mounts in the steering column and requires 1 wire for power. If it becomes disabled for any reason the steering works the same as it would without the power assist.
