Bolters-

I need help from you Chevy experts. I have set up my rig with a modified TH350 transmission, making it the same length as a 700R4. I found a stock driveshaft that would fit the standard TH350 to rear differential, approximately 55-1/2". Yet, with the modification, I need a driveshaft at 53-1/2". Does anyone know about the stock shaft lengths from a standard 700R4 so I can search the yards? Maybe a Monte Carlo? Is there a table on the net with driveshaft lengths?

Thanks in advance-

Here are few listed in my Hollander exchange manual:
53-12/16" Jimmy Blazer 73-81 4x2 M.T. 4 spd
52-25/32" 73-81 van/truck 110"wb 6.6L Chev/GMC
52" weld to weld Cadillac 77-80 gasoline V8
53-13/64" 75-80 Granada/Monarch V8 8" ring gear
53-13/16" 73-78 Fury/Coronet/Monaco/Satalite
53-13/32" 63-70 Jeep truck 4x4
53-19/32" 74-77 F250 150"wb 4x4

Not all are marked with the length. You might find a GM car but you will have to measure them. The Blazer/Jimmy may be as close as you are going to get, but the yoke might not fit or interchange. Joe

Another thing you could do is to find a drive shaft shop, most of these shops can make anything you want and will tell you how to measure for the shaft.
I was able to have a shaft made for my 1955 GMC and I had it balanced. The shop I went to did everything from large trucks to 4 x 4 they had blank yokes which could be machined for your needs.

thanks for this suggestion. I can certainly have a longer shaft machined. I was thinking that I could save money if there was a stock option. How much did sizing the saft set you back? I'll probably have any shaft out of the yard balanced to make sure it's right and reduce vibration.

The only part I had was the spline for the Hydra-Matic trans. so the drive shaft was all new they machined the yokes, balanced and installed new universal joints. I was able to get a drive shaft length from a GMC parts book and it cost $220 to have it done ,$120 of the cost was labor. Now this was done two years ago.
If you can find a drive shaft close it sure would save you some money but if you have a driveshaft cut and balanced I am sure the labor cost would be up there.

Good luck
Dave

Dave-

Thanks for the ballpark estimate. With some common shafts possible I'll hopefully just have to pop for the balancing. Thanks!

I replaced my stock engine with a 350 chevy out of a camaro. I took my original driveline into the shop had them shorten and balance it, and it only ran $80.00. Works like a charm. Hope this helps.

Just had one made to go on my 53' I was switching from an enclosed driveshaft to a S10 T5 with a monte Carlo Rear end. I bought the S10 driveshaft with the T5 $15 and had it shortened and balended, 1 new yoke to match the Monte Rear and ujoints all for $109 they also cleaned the rust up on it and painted it glossy black for me.
Place was Inland Driveline here in KC (I know not much help for you but maybe for someone in my neck of the woods).

Thanks for the info. I've been distracted by brakes, but hope to hunt down a stock shaft of length from the bone yards. Balancing is probably still wise. Shiny black paint would also be welcome!

You just keep clicking along all summer long. Way-2-Go!
