on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2012 Posts: 44 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2012 Posts: 44 | I have a 1957 261 that I plan on installing in my 51 3100. I would like to use the 57 bellhousing because of the better mounting stance and I dont want to use the spindle leg front engine mounts. I could use the bellhousing from the 51 but would prefer the 57.
I have searched the forums and saw mention of modifying the 51 crossmember or bellhousing but no description as to how it was done.
Thanks for any insight. Bud

It has the angled mount pads that fit your 57 bellhousing. Try putting an ad in the "Parts Wanted" forum to see if someone might have one left over from an automatic transmission conversion. The crossmember was hot-riveted in originally, but a replacement can be installed by using tapered punches for hole alignment and reaming the rivet holes for shouldered bolts. That crossmember also reinforces the rear spring mounts, so simply using regular bolts for installation allows too much frame flex. Jerry
