FYI, my 53 sat for over 2 years. Battery was on tender. Had to use Charger to start engine. Ran around block. Negative cable got hot and fried. Cleaned the connections to frame. Replaced rusty washers and cable. Started right up and cable did not get hot.

If you put copper-impregnated grease on all the clean/shiny contact areas, it will not rust/corrode any time soon. My cables/connections/6v-battery have remained good for over 14 years).
