Today I discovered that the splash pan from a big bolt does not fit on a half ton. I was hoping to be driving it soon and now I have to wait for the new fiberglass one to arrive, then paint it then carry on. Dang!
Wife and I have been doing a bunch of little things as we get close to having a safety done. Some brake work, a couple shocks and spring shackles recently. Just put on new hubcaps. Next 'big' item to do are the windshields (passenger side has a few rock chips/cracks).
put the transmission back in my 58, with a ranger torque splitter in front of it!! Now to shorten the driveshaft and hook park brake and stuff back up!
Don't forget to post some pictures of your Ranger install...
Thanks,
Mike B
I'll take some later this evening. I didn't take any before I slid it in but, I can take some with it sitting in place, the floor plate is not in yet and there is a lot of room under a big bolt so crawling under there with a camera is not a big deal! Moving that thing around is a bugger though with them bolted together, they weigh over 200 #.
here are some pics of the overdrive in place. Sorry I did not get any with it sitting on the dolly out of the truck. Ranger Torque Splitter (overdrive) sits in front of the trans, between the trans and bellhousing. Mine is an older cast iron case unit. It moved the trans back 6 5/8".

I have an aluminum unit waiting to be put in my '65 when I switch it over to the SM420 and the 3.54 Dana 60. Right now it's 4.57, three on the tree with Borg Warner Overdrive. I haven't disliked the 3 speed setup enough yet to switch it over to the SM420/D60. I ran the SM420/D60 in my other '65 and it was a blast to drive with those 3.54's in the rear end.

I fixed the cowl vent assembly. I had to make a bracket out of steel with a dremel, drill, and a bunch of filing. I put it all together and it works like a champ! Probably hasn't been functional in a long time.
Here's what I got done , any one that was at the 2018 reunion will recognize this view, Its what my truck looked like for part of the weekend . Old 3rd member out new one waiting to be installed .

Julio Thanks for the pictures, the truck looks great and pics are a great way to help folks that are struggling to finish their own project. It took me six years to do a complete rebuild and I do understand all the headaches a project like that entails. Good luck with the finish.
Ty sir! Still working on it today trying to setup timing n idle, plus bunch of small items. Soooo close! I see you in Dallas area. Hope to move down there in that area next year. Thx again.
My 54 3100 had a leaking right front wheel cylinder. I replaced it and cleaned up the mess ,repacked the bearings..its good to go..I was thinking that I had replace the front wheel cylinders years ago, but, no I had not. Both original and not a problem with them at all.Till the right one started leaking.. not bad for a 65 year old truck! Next will be the master cylinder. Its staring to leak now.
The "round-tuit" has finally arrived, pulled the old 216 from my 49 3100 and preparing the rebuilt 235 for install. As is always the case I've found some issues to address while the clip and engine is removed. But considering I'm dealing with an original 70 yr old farm truck I'm amazed and impressed at how little is needing addressed. A frame - off is not in this particular phase, getting it back roadable and as close to stock is. Dave
With the annual cruise event coming up this weekend I decided the idiot lights in the dash were just not going to cut it. The cruise usually bogs down as we make the turn around downtown. A 3/4 mile backup is the norm for the first 45 minutes. A lot of the cars overheat in the slow crawl and 95* temps. So far “Blue” has not shown signs of overheating but I don’t want to take a chance. Installed a Water Temp gauge and a Voltage gauge under the dash. Couple hours work for peace of mind. Deep cleaning is on the Friday to do list.

Ordered a new fuel pump-to-carb steel fuel line from Inline Tube and it arrived yesterday. Installed it this evening and it fit like a glove. The bends were perfect. Was worried about leaks, but after a couple of tightening-loosening-tightening sessions so the flares would seat good I fired up the 216 and not a drop of gasoline was seen. Looking forward to a short cruise this weekend.

Took the Fire Engine to a small show on Saturday and as I was backing it into the shop at the end of the day, the water pump started leaking anti-freeze. So, I replaced the pump, added new coolant and changed the oil and filter while I was there. I was glad it didn't decide to leak while on the road!
Welded in a 1/4" plate to patch the busted out right side crossmember section where the right side radiator support bolts. Discovered it when I pulled the clip for an engine swap.
Spent the morning with oldest grandson (16 and newly licensed driver) deep cleaning and detailing the ‘62 C-10. Prepping for tomorrow’s show and evening cruise. Ready to go. ðŸ›

I actually got a 4.10 gear setup for my 63 gmc 2500 and it was less than 10 miles from me for $75.. Im excited about it considering how much I read about these far and few between. The 5.16s are already out.
Prepped the running boards for welding on brackets and reinforcement and primered the new tailgate and cross-sills I picked up from Mar-K. Used a couple of spray cans of 2K epoxy primer. Worked pretty well. I'd been waiting to have enough stuff to use them on as they only have a 4 day life after activation.

Scraped, degreased and cleaned my empty 49's engine bay, inner fenders and radiator assembly and hit it with a couple coats of satin black. Even with it being a satin finish it looks almost too shiny to match the original patina'd exterior which I have no plans to change at this time. I may hit it with flat, I dunno, it looks good and won't be seen with the hood down, still studying it....
I've removed the original (leaky) radiator, disconnected all the electrics and water hoses in readiness for engine removal and M2 crossmember. I've at last got to the bottom of my handling woes,it turns out the M2 crossmember is in entirely the wrong place and no amount of adjustment will get the geometry correct,it's only 4 tyres in 17,000 miles and a scary fender bender too late.....: I have a complete new M2 crossmember along with a new aluminium radiator waiting to go back in,i've already done the Altman door latches and plan three point seat belts.(finally!) I might even get some proper paint on it this year!
It's fast approaching 16 years of ownership and i'm still telling people it's not finished!

As anyone knows I am not a mechanic, I do have some skills in that general area but because if I mess up it means a tow to town, be that it may I decided to replace the new distributor cap with the old one I took off and also the rotor. If you have read the trials and tribulations of the last 1 1/2 years you would know why I am doing this. I did it and the truck started right up and seems to run a little better. I had some surging and hesitation when I first drove off. Now only time will tell if I did right. I have been driving it more as a regular truck than a show truck, hauling rocks, yard trash, mulch, and other yard debris.

As I’ve already said in an other forum, I drove to Austin and we pulled the 216 out of the donor truck and I drove back to San Antonio with It safely tied down in the back of the truck. I called the owner of the shop where we’re going to do the engine transplant and he met me there and helped unload the motor and put it in the shop. The motor really needs to be cleaned up before we install it, so I’m planning on taking my Honda powered pressure washer to the shop next weekend and giving it a good bath. It was my first time pulling an engine and I learned a lot. Looking forward to helping with the install.
