Just baught a 53 3600 last weekend and was told the it had a 235 swapped into it. when I got home upon further inspection it doesn't resemble what I thought the 235s should look like. The valve cover has 6 bolts holding it down (3 per side) and the radiator support was modified (poorly I might add)to further complicate things the model numbers don't match anything I can find on the site. I'm sure this has been addressed before however none of the articles in the tech tips or faqs cleared things up for me. I'm hopping someone can shed some light on this..

Looks like a 230/250 to me...

Is the engine code F0514TCL ?

F = Flint
05 = Month
14 = Day
TCL = application

And with Mike B's comment, it looks like your engine is a couple generations newer than the original. For a driver, not a bad thing in my book.

Good Luck,

I can't find any three letter codes in my books that go up to 1967, so it may be newer than that.

Who has an early 1970's Parts Book that can look this up???

TCL is 1978 250 according to this: http://73-87.com/7387info/engineid.htm

But... GM started painting all engines corporate blue in 1977. headscratch

Great work Gord!

I wouldn't loose any sleep over the engine color as we have no idea how many PO's have repainted it to their liking .
