I am collecting parts to put together a '49 chevy half ton and my nephew has offered me a engine he took out of a caddy with the tranny. My question is how do I figure out how many cubes this baby is and also , just looking , it appears to me the oil pan with the front or mid sump on it might not clear the MII crossmember . I am still in the parts collecting stage and dont have the crossmember in the truck yet . Is there a different oil pan available to move the sump back some ? Has anyone done this combo yet ? Are there any other potential problems I am missing ?

the pan you describe makes it out to be RWD...
i've subframed my 52 bourban and have a 500" eldo motor in it(may not stay with $2 a gallon gas)

Ive done a bit of reserach on the 500 caddy swap myself and these guys are recomended by people on other boards.

From my research the best year is a 71 Eldarodo as it has the right sump. Remote oil filters etc are available. Just do lots of reading as the answers are out there. One of the guys here has done it, I think it might be 2-Ton but may be wrong.

A little more than half way down they talk about availible oil pans and what year caddy motors had each...
