Already ask this question to a fellow bolter and received pics from him. Thought I would ask here to get more input. Is the rod to move the latch supposed to be straight or have a small bend? One of mine will not even move the latch when the handle on the outside is moved. I am assuming the small rod has been abused over the years and has to much of a bend in it. Thanks for any help. I know absolutely nothing about a ‘37 but my thought is, anytime you put a bend in a rod you weaken it. I believe it was originally straight. 🛠

Thanks, any and all input on this is great. I am hoping that someone out there has one with no abuse and can verify that it is straight.

I checked the mechanisms on my '37, both sides, and they are straight. I recall having problems with a hood latch on my '42. They are exactly like the '37 and one had bent. I straightened it and that fixed the problem. I think it comes from poorly adjusted latches and then one forces the handle, bending that rod.

I am replying here so I can attach a photo. The attached picture is of the right (passenger) side. You may need to adjust the latches on the firewall and radiator surround, fore and aft, of the hood opening. These each have two bolts holding them in place with slotted openings to allow adjustment. The only way I know how to do it is by trial and error. You can observe from the other side. Good luck.

Also, the handles are horizontal on closing/latching.

Kent, sorry about calling you Lee, am talking to two people on this issue. After further review my handles are both vertical when closed. The pic you sent is of the passenger panel correct? Not sure why they they are wrong. I am going to try and turn hangles around. Bill

That is correct, the picture if of the inside of the passenger side of the hood. No need to apologize, it may be Lee who is offended when he finds out you confused him with ME!
