Guys I have a 49 Suburban that I put a 69 Nova clip, a 1978 454 w TH400 tranny in. I am looking for a floor mounted shifter but prefer not to spend the big bucks for a Lokar or Gennie shifter. Has anyone got an idea of what would fit or could be modified to work. Or is there another manufacturere that is more reasonable?

B&M make some nice shifters for cars. You'd have to raise it up somehow so you can reach it, but the Quicksilver and the Megashifter work well. I have both of those. I'd say the Quicksilver is the easier one to use.

I put a Lokar shifter in my 55,I think it was worth the money.Tools and truck parts ,ya get what you pay for.Just my 2 cents worth.

I am also using a Lokar shifter. It was money well spent. Very adjustable and easy to install. Its first rate equipment, plus it looks somewhat original. Most people still think its a manual transmission till I point out only two pedals on the floor. Joe

I have a 58 with SB chevy and the 400 turbo and it has the B&M Quicksilver. It is works great but you gotta reach down to use it. The Lokar one like Joe has looks great and eliminates a center passenger. tough choices.

If you don't mind bending down, I've often used a Pinto or Mustang Shifter.Then I used the switch back bracket that goes on the trany from a Chevy floor shift car.Or you could us the column shifter from an automatic truck.

Not what you wanted to hear but I too use the Lokar on a turbo 350. Swap meet buy from a vendor for $160.00 maybe? Very easy to install and adjust. Looks good too and easy to reach. I don't know of any cheap solutions.

Try going to local auto salvage yard look at the cars that came with auto shifters on the floor .you can usually pick something like that for ten to twenty dollars ,There is a lot of things on other vehicles that you can make work and save a lot of money. good luck old navy 51...........

Well Guys I bit the bullet and bought a Lokar. It actually arrived today and looks good. I figured what the hey you get what you pay for and I need to keep moving forward. I do a lot of salvage yard & swap meet purchases but don't have the time right now so I pulled out the wallet!!

49bourbon,I think you made a wise choice,the Lokars are quality stuff.
