I removed the 10/24 nuts on the backside of the gauges. Those nuts are a big pain to remove. So I went Ace hardware bought some aluminum threaded inch long spacers.Brought them home put them in the lathe and put a knurled end on them.
They turned out nice.

My local Ace & True Value hardware stores in NY and NC had them : 10-24 knurled thumb nut

I use Ace Hardware knurled brass nuts.

My local Ace Hardware (Elizabeth City) closed a while back, Fastenal didn't carry them, so I ordered my knurled brass thumb nuts online from "albanycountyfasteners.com". On my '51-3100 they are 10-32, not 10-24. They work much better than the original nuts.

'47 GMC 1 ton w/ 302, NP-540, 4wd, full width Blazer front axle.
'54 GMC 630 w/ 503 gasser, 5 speed, ex fire truck, shortened WB 4', install 8' bed.
'55 GMC 370 w/270, 420 4 speed, grain, dump bed truck from ND. Works OK.
