I do not have immediate access to the COE; I can tell you there are 2 (two) 5/16" adjustment screws (bolts) on each rear wheel. Located toward the upper 1/2...to 1/3 of the backing plate.
Thanks COE Leo.

On 1946 2 ton both adjusting bolts turned clockwise to reduce clearance between the brake shoe lining and
the brake drum. Need to turn both bolts the same amount so both shoes grip evenly.

Also when installing new shoes the manual says to back off the parking brake before adjusting the brakes.
Once the brakes are adjusted then you readjust the hand brake.

Hy coeleo, I must admit I can't recall ever seeing a brake adjuster on the rear of any truck I have ever worked on that was a tiny 5/16" hex bolt. The older adjusters at the top of the backing plate were 5/8" hex if I'm remembering correctly and the newer brakes had two slots in the backing plate, I'll do some research but a picture sure would help. Do you think anyone might know what rear axle has been swapped into this truck?

Hey, My brother who has (had) a lot of old chevy parts actually exchanged the rear-ends (from a GMC to chevy) so the bolt pattern and hubs are proper for the year...1949. He said the rear end came out of an old 1947-53 chevy school bus.
