Just wondering if anyone knows if the car 5th gears from a NWC t5 are compatible with a NWC T5 from a truck.

Wolffcub,

I think we need more information to be able to give a good answer. The T5's were in Camaros, mustangs, minivans, s-10's blazers, Jeeps, AMC's.....and the list goes on.

The information needed is on a small tag on a tail housing bolt(1352-XXX). Casting numbers are not definitive.

ASU, maybe you can answer my question on a t5. I have no tag and pick mine up at a salvage yard. Any way to tell year? It was supposedly in a s-10. The shifter is not in the rear of tailstock but in the middle. Also are the electronic pickups for speedometer all the same? Thanks Bill

Wolfcub, send a private message to Lugnutz. Sorry, sometimes questions just don’t get answers.

Borg Warner used a wide variety of gears and gear cuts in the T5. The countershaft dictates what the drive train gear must be if a gear must be replaced. It’s usually best to get a complete gear set along with the matching countershaft if the price is within your budget. Swapping 5th gear is usually pretty easy and there are fewer variables.

Sorry if I missed your question on my BLOG.
I know that Chevy S10 gear sets should be kept together (gears 1 thru 4). In other words, individual gears will not necessary exchange into another transmission.

A Chevy 5th gear set can be exchanged into another Chevy T5, but there are exceptions. World class 5th gear sets should exchange with NWC sets too, with some exceptions. I wanted to swap a 0.76 OD gear set with a 0.72 set but the main shaft was not machined at the proper place for the needed C-clip, so I couldn’t do it.

If you are wanting to change the OD gear ratio, please keep in mind that swapping a 5th gear set from an S10 with a V8 Camaro 5th gear set can be done, but the OD gear ratio will change. Here’s a video I made to explain why. LINK HERE
