Every time I head towards my grandfather's farm I see 2 or 3 old AD trucks. Flat beds.

Compared to the 3100, how do they differ as far as sheet metal? Track width wider? Same cabs?

I've been told the cabs are the same. I have a '54 4400 and was told the fenders are a little wider on mine versus a 3100. I have never actually measured and compared so just going by what I have been told.

Cabs are the same.
Fenders, hood, grill, and related parts are same for 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, and 1 ton. Short running boards are same for these trucks too
Fenders, hood, grill, and related parts are same for 1.5 and 2 ton.

2 ton is a little wider front track width than the smaller trucks. I believe that 3/4 and 1 ton are same and wider than 1/2 ton by a tiny bit. Plenty of dimensions like these in the shop manuals and "restoration packs" GM once sent out for each year if you asked

If you want to drive them, look at running gear, wheel bolt pattern, braking system.

'37 GMC T-18 w/ DD 4-53T, RTO-610, 6231 aux., '95 GMC running gear, full disc brakes, power steering, 22.5 wheels and tires.
'47 GMC 1 ton w/ 302, NP-540, 4wd, full width Blazer front axle.
'54 GMC 630 w/ 503 gasser, 5 speed, ex fire truck, shortened WB 4', install 8' bed.
'55 GMC 370 w/270, 420 4 speed, grain, dump bed truck from ND. Works OK.
