It looks like it would work great on a 235 or 261. I don't think the siamese ports will be a problem if you set the injectors up right.

At wide open throttle, injection offers very little over a correctly sorted carburetor. The late Japenese superbikes make fantastic HP with carbs and superior engine designs although they may now use FI to meet emissions. If you have the time and the parts , do it and then we will all know if it works.

I think it would do a lot for a 235 with a cam. Fuel injection does a good job of regulating idle and part- throttle drivability. If you put a wild cam in the 235 you would get better breathing and the fuel injection would take some of the lumpies out of the cam.

I believe a stock TBI setup like that flows about 390 cfm, and all the works could be had off a junk 2.5 GM car for probably about nothing.
Has anyone actually done this ? Wouldn't exactly be a fire-breathing setup, but those TBI's are pretty reliable. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 3,458 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 3,458 | I think the trick to adapting fuel injections from a donor vehicle is to pick one from a car with a similar engine displacement and same number of cylinders. That way the fuel map is close and the injectors fire in the right sequence. I don't think a four cylinder fuel injection would work well on a six cylinder engine. The Buick 3.8L is 231 cid, very close to the 235.

I'm starting work on a TBI system for a 250 that's going to go in my 1954 GMC Panel, I have a computer for a 4.3L V6 that will drive two one-barrel TBI units on a two-carb manifold. Once I make some progress, I'll post more info (that may be a while...). | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 12 Member | | Member Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 12 | I am putting a throttle body system from Affordable Fuel Injection on my 292. Do not have it running yet so I can't talk about problems. It uses a two barrel TB from 4.3L. System came with rebuilt TB, custom computer, wiring harness, all sensors, and modified distributor - for about $1250. Here is the site www.affordable-efi.com

You are stuck with the algorithms that they design for emmissions and the sensors that they use without regard to the compatibility of putting them on an old stovebolt. I have bought a few books on TBI and TPI systems that cover theory and sensor types as well as where to get all this stuff (donor vehicles, supply houses, etc.) I am going to use a Motorola DSP based controller board that is commercially available and make a home brewed system for my 292. The first few minutes of running might be dicey . . . better have my stuff together! | | | | | Joined: Mar 2001 Posts: 77 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Mar 2001 Posts: 77 | 8-2bbl 97s on a 292 hemi yea idle on all 8 run up to half throttle on 4 open de 4 outsides oops dinosaurs talk i likes this stuff simple digital fi systems and looks real adapitable program from yer lap top zoom zoom zooom zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

SDS does not use RS232 communication protocol and is not laptop or PC compatible. Looks interesting, though....

But they do have their place, for me I can justify using one because it should run out of the box, without all the trial & error on my part. This is important on my daily driver. When I have the money and time, I want to create a MPI system that also controls a turbo. The siamesed intake ports really seem to be the stopping point. So what if you use one of the 12 port aluminum heads(big money). Not a crossflow-I want to keep the intake & exhaust on the same side for the turbo. Could also use stuff like a crank trigger & distributorless ignition.

my idea is to use the injecter system of a hipower chevy Camaro or firbird v6 and then you can buy a programer to ajust performenc | | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 3,458 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 3,458 | Most of the 12 port heads today were made by cutting the 4th cylinder off a pair of SBC heads and welding them together and re-drilling the block for the new bolt pattern. Not easy at all.

You can also look around inliners site for other sources. I think most 12port heads are for late inline sixes. Also Santucci's manual has lots of pictures of all styles of heads.
