Wondering if any one has the paint chip color for 237 Airway Blue , bought a 1952 chevy 1300 but having problems to find the original paint color any help is appreciated.
hi Stewie, thank you for creating a Canadian paint colour thread, i was thinking of doing this as well as there isn't much information for Canadian models. if someone has original documents for the Canada truck paint codes please share!
i attached photos for vin tags showing paint code of some of my trucks, paint code 33: two 1950 chevy 1 tons, likely were maroon, repainted red, or was maroon build and then factory option painted red for delivery? paint code 136: 1951 3/4 ton (this truck looks black, it was never re-painted, it came from BC to SK in the late 50s - early 60s) paint code 339: 1953 chevy 1 Ton which has 0% paint remaining so i have no idea what it should look like.. rust brown paint code 339: 1953 GMC 1 Ton, dark flat blue, could have been repainted so many times, who knows?
where would be the best places on the body to confirm original exterior paint on a truck, i'll cut metal to get to fresh painted original surfaces, i'm that curious.
based on anecdotal information i found on line for Canadian models: 33 = possibly Cape Maroon 32 = something like Forester Green ?23 or maybe 37 = Airway Blue (close to Windsor Blue 664 in USA) 31 = similar to Omaha Orange 34 = sorta Cream Medium
looking forward to discussing Canadian truck paint thanks -stan
One way to try is to contact Vintage Vehicle Services in Oshawa. They will run a detailed report based on your VIN and may surprise you with other details about your truck.
I ran the report for my 1959 GMC and was blown away by the report that showed only 2697 were made!
Picture of the truck below and there's my build thread under "Project Journal" on this forum too.
Another way to get the color is to go to a automotive paint jobber store (like Rondex in Winnipeg who sells BASF UNO) and ask them if they can make it up for you. The modern paints won't be the same technology as the old stuff, but they might me able to make the color anyway.... at least they were able to make me some Omaha Orange so I could decide I did NOT want to paint my truck so I went with a different orange.
Hello everyone...need some help to solve a bit of a mystery....
I own a Canadian built 1952 GMC 9430 1 Ton (been in the family since new)...I plan to restore the vehicle to as original as possible in a few years and have begun researching and gathering information for this purpose...the mystery I am trying to solve is regarding the paint code which on the data plate shows SP 2012 (this number is even written in grease pencil under the hood). Old color photos show it to be a lighter blue color almost dusty blue. There are still traces of the original paint color on the firewall hidden under 6 decades of farm dirt oil and grease. Of note the truck was repainted a dark blue color in the early 80s...but traces of the original paint are still showing in places...
Like the post above I got a report for my vehicle from Vintage Vehicle Services in Oshawa Ontario but the paint code showed unknown...I called them to inquire and they told me that the paint code was a special order code and that there probably is no record of it. They suggested that my vehicle may have been part of a fleet order but never delivered, and the vehicle was sold to the public. What is also interesting is the wheel striping, which has a single white stripe around each of the 17" rims, from what I have read from the factory this should have been a double stripe.
Since there doesn't seem to be any record of paint codes for the CDN built GMCs I will have to try and match as close as possible with US built GMC truck paint codes from 1952 and it seems to me that Cumberland Blue would be closest....
Looking at the photos has anyone ever seen this color in a CDN built advanced design before ?
Bumping thread...seems to be very little paint code info out there for Canadian built AD trucks...appreciate any info on this subject/thread. Thank you :-)

My truck 54 gmc paint code is FC56 it was originally from what I can tell a two tone blue dark navy fenders with a light blue body like your firewall above
I'm still pretty new here, but I thought I would add my paint color. My Paint code is 31. The truck was red, with a white/cream colored line below the windows (excluding below the windshield).
