1949 Panel Truck. Anyone give me advice on installing a reproduction glove box? I've pushed, stretched, and hammered but I can't get this thing to fit or any of the screw holes to align. Almost like it's too small for the opening. What am I doing wrong?

I believe there are two different glove box inserts. 47-49 & 50-53.
Which one did you buy?

The way to tell if you have an early or late 49 is by this strip which fits around the inside of the glovebox. I am guessing you need the later version. Seperate from that they do require some push/pull effort. I found the best way is to get the top edge in place, you can then get your hand on the back to pull it down. Good luck!

I found one of those retaining strips in my spare parts box. So now I evidently need to relocate the glovebox liner to the INSIDE of the opening and secure it with the retaining band?

Seems like a funky setup. Will the later-model liner fit instead?

Yes, there seems to be a different liner for each 47-49, 50-53, 54-55, etc. Then there are different ones for chevy/gmc cars. Now where does a panel truck lie?

Thank you - that is the only photo I've seen of the early style with the retaining band. I'm learning that one goes inside the opening secured by the retaining band, and the other goes outside the opening, secured by clip nuts. I suspect that I have a early style glove box insert but I'm trying to install it like the later style. This is what happens when your truck is built from a pile of different year parts! Maybe I'll just order a later style and try that.

Any thoughts on possibly using some epoxy or fiberglass resin to improve the rigidity and longevity of these pieces. Like the cardboard glove box, the headliner, and the door panels?

Someone customized the one my truck before I bought it. It has newspaper comics as reinforcement. It's pretty stout. It looks like they put it over the old cardboard.
