I have a 1955 1st series and need help regarding how my truck bed is resting on the frame. Its tilted to the right. I have owned this truck for a long time, and the bed has always leaned to the right. The drive is fine, drives straight no pulling. I am in the process of doing some restoration and would like to understand if this was intentional or I require more "blocks" under the right to level the bed. I have seen other photos that seem to show a slight tilt on other 55s so I had to ask and looking for comment.

P33,

Does your bed have sides that
- go straight upwards to the rolled edge at the top (54/55st), or,
- go straight upwards to the "bevel" outward and then to a rolled edge at the top (47-53)?
Advance-Design bed differences

54/55st did not have blocks
47-53 had blocks

We can only guess. Assuming the truck has the stock bed (no blocks, as Tim said), I suspect the springs. You need to park on a level surface and measure from the axle to the frame on both sides and see if the measurement is equal.

P33, does your truck have the driver's side spare tire mount and is it a 1/2 ton model? If memory serves me right, there was a spacer on the right side only between the leaf spring pack and the axle tube mount. This lowered the right side to match the weight of the spare tire and bracket assembly on the left side. If your side spare is gone and/or mount removed and the spacer is still there, it could be the reason.

As others have said, worn springs and/or shackle pins, shackle bolts can tweak the rear look too.
