Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 2013 Posts: 73 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2013 Posts: 73 | I haven't followed the site in a while but still driving my 61 GMC 1/2 ton some. came up with a 75 chev 1 ton with a supposedly rebuilt 454 a while back. the truck is a rust bucket but I got the engine running and it sounds pretty good so I'm going to pull it and the 4 speed manual. thought about putting it in the 61 in place of the old worn 302 v-6 but probably won't. it would drink more gas I'm sure.

Just not sure how difficult the rest would be (mounts, linkage, cross member, steering etc). It would make it easier to add accessories (AC, power steering etc). It all depends on what you want with your truck.

Seriously, I think the mileage would be very near the same. My 62 3/4 ton got around 10mpg and I've heard 454's do about that also. I don't think the 454 probably weighs more than the V6.
