Hi guys,
Now that I’ve swapped gears my 48 really gets down the road but stopping is another story. So I’ve decided to do a brake job. Since this is my first time working with drum brakes I’m doing a lot of reading and taking my time. I ordered new shoes and cylinders but when I took the drums in to get cut there’s nothing to cut. So I’m looking for new drums and they don’t seem as readily available as I thought they would. So my question is where is a good place to get them or can I use another year (found 51 that seem like the same)?

What size 1948 & 1951 trucks?

For 1/2 tons, it looks like 1946-1950 are the same, and 1951-1954/55st are the same?

It’s a 1/2 ton.

A 1951 drum WILL NOT work on your 1948 1/2 ton.

Front or Rear drums ?

Do you prefer junk yard / parts truck used drums - Chinese Repro's - or - Genuine GM NOS drums ?

That's a substantial saving .

If these repro drums are made in china I'd have them measured

to make sure they are measurement True .

I've heard that even new repro drums need to be turned to get them True .

Are your 70 year old brake metal lines original ?

Hi George,
I put the code in but did not get the discount. I’m going to call them Monday. Thanks for the tip on the drums, I’ll check them before I use them. Somewhere down the line some of the previous owners already changed most of the brake lines so I only had to do a few of them. Got lucky there, but I did swap out to a dual master cylinder, thought it would be safer. Thanks for the help it is much appreciated!
