I talked to a guy at No Limit Engineering today.
$800 for the install. 1,800 for the complete IFS setup with power rack. Still thinkin about it.
Am I crazy?

Hello all,
Seriously looking for an IFS here.
What are the possible disadvantages of a bolt it?
Have you seen these before?

Thanks,
Sean

Have you driven the solid front axle with mono leafs and good gas shocks? A pretty decent ride IMO.
It seems like a lotta money to spend.

The '73-'87 GM truck front IFS will bolt in with some modifications. There are several sites on this swap on the web. Probably a lot cheaper than their IFS, and it is designed for truck use.

I just pulled the front suspension intact from my daughter's Corvair. Six 3/8" bolts and it's out. Granted it's only 1000 lbs or so on the front end, but it makes me think bolt-in is a definite possibilty. I believe the K members (with suspension and powertrain) on most new cars bolt in.

I've got a straight axle and mono's on mine. Not bad, IMO.

Swapping a Corvair front end was very popular in the hot rod scene in the 70's. But it maybe too light for a pickup?

don't get excited, the frt suspension is PLENTY heavy but why bother?
drum brakes and they didn't drive any better than a straight axle

Ok its few months later and
I purchased a front suspension from Total Cost Involved. it was about 1800 dollars and about 300 to weld only the cross member in. I have not paid for it all because I just dropped the truck off today. He is also doing the motor mounts which will be an addition but I am excied now that I have made a decision. I will update when I pick it up this week.

540 DOLLARS?????
no way... the welds were done and now he is asking for more money? (nearly double?) I did not even have the motor mounts welded in. Has anyone else had this happen with welding work? It is kinda hard to have him remove it. I told him i would not pay and he removed the material cost and dropped of 100 dollars. I am still very angry though

only in Californicate! grin when a shop gives ya an "estimate", get it in writing so it's a legally binding contract - if the price gets doubled after some irreversible works gets done and you don't have it in writing, your SOL - try the "tell the world" threat and see if it gets back to the original - but you did say about a couple places in the last post

The frame was stripped bare. This was the reason he said it would be cheaper. The welds looked ok there were several little bubble holes in it though and lots of splashed flux. The other part that really gets me is that I took the frame to them and it was painted. When I got it back it looked like they had dragged it all over the lot.
Both the top and the bottom had been draged and the rear spring mounts were ground flat. My paint job probably was not the show quality this guy is used to but he really messed it up after i spent a long time doin it.
I am pretty upset.

Take out your tape measure before you pay and measure everything. It would be a [censored] to find out later it is not in the right place.

They probably put the frame upside down to weld it on the bottom. Still, dragging damage doesn't sound very nice. But, you should be able to touch it up pretty easy.
