how about installing a 96 265chevy v-8 to an original 3-spd tranny in a 50 chevy 3100.

Sounds cool! I would rather have a LS1 with a 6 spd.

How are you going to mate up the original 3 speed to the 265? Are there adapter plates available? You know, Muncies are plentiful and cheap, you could easily stick a 4-speed on the back of that motor. Just an idea.

What's the 265 out of that you want to transplant?

It would probably be a lot of work to adapt the old transmission to the new engine. If you swap transmissions, you're going to have to replace most of the driveline, as your truck should have the torque tube rearend, unless someone else has already replaced it.
