I have a '65 chevy truck - it has a 1992 5.7l chevy engine in it. It has a holley 4160(600cfm) carburetor on a standard performer edelbrock aluminum intake, with a HEI distributor. This stuff was in here and on it when I bought the truck. The engine: My truck: The thing about all of that stuff is, it has the stock '92 exhuast manifolds on it! From the stock manifolds it flows into this crazy looking bent pipe, then from that into some old 'cherry bomb brand' glasspacks then into some straight pipes to the rear of the truck. So, I am thinking that is restricting a bit of flow... from what little I understand about such things. I know there are headers out there for a '92 engine... but those are for the '92ish trucks... right? Plus... what about after the headers? There needs to be some pipes, then mufflers then it has to exit somewhere.... I'm in Georgia so emissions is not an issue with this truck. Also, this is a long bed, 127" wheelbase. Anyway, tips or tricks are appreciated... or point me to a website so that I can read up and get a clue or two. Thank you. -W | | | | | Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 687 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 687 | Woog: 2 Cents worth. I would go with a ceramic shorty headers, because of space! Then into a set of Flow Master, or Dura Max (I think). There is many combinations possible with the tightness of these old trucks you have to be careful. For the end results look at some old trucks, some have the pipes end in front, or behind the rear wheels. Or take it straight back past the bumper.
Shorty Headers give about 8 to 10 HP, Many companies sell this stuff. I use either Edelbrock or Summit racing. Go to a speed shop ask questions. For me I am very fortunate having an oldtimer speedshop close by that offers suggestions on the race car, or my old 59.

I noticed this on the edelbrock and holley websites. I mentioned the year of the block in my truck in case there are other differences for the headers that I am not aware of.
Thanks popcorn and tomslik,

I highly doubt I can order up a pre-fab kit for a '65 C10 long wheel base(127") stepside... tho' I could be wrong.

But, anyway, the holes in header flanges are probably large enough that they will probably fit any sbc (maybe a little file work may be necessary) so, when you have your headers installed and your fitting bolted to the end of the headers, your best bet would be to take it to a muffler shop and let them go from there. Probably will be as cheap as buying all the parts and then having to install them and the job will be neater and you won't have pipes and mufflers bumping the frame, cross member, shocks and wearing holes in your brake, gas, and automatic transmission lines. I do most of my work, but there are some things I usually don't fool with. Windshields and exhaust systems are two to name.

only problem i've ever seen is on certain exhaust manifolds on the rh head, there is an extra bolt hole for the manifold.not a concern with headers.
the spacings are the same up until about 2000 when they went to the 5.3/6.0l style block+heads
