Could you guys enlighten me. ? After Google has let me down , I'm looking for information on what a 1958 GMC 5500 truck is and what model in Chevrolet is it the equal to? Is it a one ton or a ton and a half , or two ton ton truck. A fellow close tome says he has one with a side dump bed?.. Guess that has an acricultual use? Thanks for any info. Pete

I'm not aware of a 1958 5500, they did make a F-550...is that what you're asking about? I think the 5500 series numbers were used starting in 1960...so could your year or series be wrong?

The 1958 F-550 is a snub nose (LCF) with swing open front fenders, single axle rated at 26,000. In '58 Chevrolet's biggest single axle truck was the 9000/10000 Series (2-1/2 ton) rated at 25,000 pounds.

This is a GMC Not a Chevy single axle rear. Guy said it was a 5500. ?....?. I don't know what the model numbers were on the gmc s. It's an old grain truc

Ok found out more info. This is a Gmc 350 model with a 156 wheelbase v8 Pontiac I think 353. Now my Question. Is a 350 a 1 1/2 ton 2 Ton or 21/2 ton ? Thanks

350 is a 2 ton GMC
