The old truck bug is working deeper and deeper into me! On Friday I am going to go look at a 72 3/4ton 4x4 suburban. Any body have tips that would be specific for burbs? I have big future plans for it as my AD single cab 1 Ton can’t fit my whole family in it. My wife fully supports me with one catch. When the stable is full, if one comes home another has to go... we will see what happens! 😎
I’m hoping to get it for under $500.

That's why I got my panel truck. I had a pickup, but the cab is cramped and you can't leave anything in the bed without it blowing out or being stolen. The panel or Burb is great for hauling everything; trouble is that it's an excuse to leave the back filled with junk!
To get a bigger stable, I think I’d have to sell a truck! You can see my problem! Hahaha!
I went and looked at the suburban today. It is rough, but might be ok for what I have planned. The owner said that her ex husband said it would start right up. Open the hood, which had a hole in it right above the carb, and I see that the air cleaner is gone, carb is open, and it is rusty on the inside. I suspect water has been trickling down its throat for some time. Engine might be a boat anchor .
It does have a spicer front differential. Good? Bad? The ex husband’s list states that it has 1 ton hubs up front. I don’t know if it is or not. I couldn’t see it is was drum or disc brakes. Again, the ex husbands list says that it has discs, but the front end grille is70.
The roof is very straight with only a couple light hole drilled in it. Doors have usual rust. Front fenders are toast. Inners are toast. Rear quarters are toast. Rear of floor looks ok. Front of floors near kick panel need quite a bit of work.
Could I make any profit on this from the running gear, do you think? 350 (boat anchor?) with 4 bolt mains, 4spd transmission, 4x4, 1 ton front differential, heavy duty suspension (it was a forestry truck).
The body is shot, but I could likely salvage the cab and doors for a crew cab. Thoughts?
I made an offer and told her to sleep on it for the night ( partly so I could sleep on it too).

No room for other toys. The '65 m00stang & VW camper take up a lot of our precious parking space. Besides, you can't do this with a panel:

Well, here it is. It is rough, but plans will take it far away from what it is right now. I will be using the burb body for a crew cab one day (likely a pipe dream though) and I’m not sure about the frame. My dad has been dreaming about a 72 4x4 longbox to bomb around in. I could put the 72 body from the pickup onto the burb frame. Yeesh. This bug is getting bad...😜😎
By the way, guess who painted the doll house? Happy wife, happy life! 😎

So the 'burb is a 3/4-ton? 8 bolt wheels? And a pickup to boot. Cool! The 67-72 trucks are very popular.
Back in 05 or 06 I bought a 71 Chevy pickup. It was a Custom/10 longbed with 250 six and THM. Lots of rust. At the time my 15 yo daughter was interested in a pickup and I thought I could fix it up for her. But the fascination with pickups passed and we bought her a used Chrysler Sebring coupe. (What a money pit.) I kept the 71 for about a year, then sold it at a loss.
