Looking for assistance in identifying a 235 engine.

From the head and block casting numbers, appears to be 1956-1962

3836848
3769716

The number behind the starter is L 13 1 <--- Dec 13, 1951 or 1961???

Best I can read the serial number behind the distributor is I2I4B <--can find

Intake 8754844
Exhaust 8885587

Also found B54 848 850

Oil filler is in the center of the cover.

I've looked at some of the sites for decoding the numbers, but the serial numbers/date code don't seem to line up with the formatting, etc.

Thank you in advance!

3836848 - 1956-1963 head casting code
What is the date casting code - see link below - that code is inside/under the valve cover)?

3769716 - 1958-1962 235 block casting code
Date casting code: L 13 1
L = 12 = December
13 = 13th day
1 = 1961 (1951 was a low pressure block - it would not be able to be used with an "848" head)

Can anybody help me on what 1948 GMC truck I have? Number on engine and title are the same, is it a 3100? Any info greatly appreciated. Respectfully, Mike.

Yankabilly - it is best to start a new topic, when posting a new/different question.

You cannot determine the model GMC truck from the Engine Serial Number

A228I94608 - A 228 194608
A228
A = modifications to the engine/block from "normal" (marked at the engine plant)
228 = 228 engine
194608 = sequence number

If there is an ID plate on the driver's door jamb, that will hold the series/model code.

Unfortunately, many states (and DMV offices) used the Engine Serial Number for registration/title purposes.
This does not uniquely ID the truck, and does not ID the model of the truck).

My apologies for not understanding I should start a new topic, old and slow I guess.
However, I do thank you, and appreciate all help.
Yankabilly.
