I’m trying to get my Chevy door locking handle to work I’m having trouble getting it to lock and unlock. I seem to have all correct parts but seems like it’s not working the way it’s suppose to as far as locking and unlocking . So I have the shaft then the pawl and the clips that clamp around the pawl and also the spring that goes into the hole of the cylinder. Problem seems to be that the two groves of the shaft and cylinder that fits around the pawl aren’t engaing and disengaging some how I think the sleeve ain’t moveing the cylinder forward and backward to engauge the pawl. Can anyone send me some good info or some litature on how this mechanism is suppose to work . The key does move the cylinder to the lock and unlock position while inserted into sleeve I just can’t get the handle to not turn open while cylinder is locked . Need some real help

On my '40 half ton, I had to find a locking handle, and ended up paying big $ for a NOS one. It has been great... but, to your point: when locked, handles of this vintage TURN when locked, but will not open the door. If that is not what is going on with yours, I don't know.

Let us know!
