I want to put one of these: in my '64 C20. But the only way I can envision pulling it off. Is by putting it in the bed, and using something like an Olds Toronado transaxle as a rearend / axle for it. Seem like a worthy project?
Start with something like a military deuce and a half drive axle and have someone build you a gearbox to transfer the power straight down to the input flange. No need for gear reduction- - - -it will have enough torque at idle to slip the clutch and get moving. Reverse- - - - -you're really on your own there! Jerry

Saw an episode of Jay Leno's Garage featuring that rig. Seeing it run was pretty awesome.

A bone stock trans-axle will hold up just fine if you use a planetary drive in the rear hubs. Our 4 engine 10,000hp tractor had a 9 inch Ford differential that held up just fine.
