I want to put one of these:

in my '64 C20. But the only way I can envision pulling it off. Is by putting it in the bed,
and using something like an Olds Toronado transaxle as a rearend / axle for it.
Seem like a worthy project?

The RR has way more torque than the olds trans. was designed for.

Start with something like a military deuce and a half drive axle and have someone build you a gearbox to transfer the power straight down to the input flange. No need for gear reduction- - - -it will have enough torque at idle to slip the clutch and get moving. Reverse- - - - -you're really on your own there!

Torque? Who needs torque? Most all of them weighed in @ 12 to 16 hundred HP! smile
Tested for 35 hrs. @ 2,000 HP on "exotic" fuel.

I think you're on to something, Jerry. Reverse? Who cares. With that much HP I think I can pretty
much go forward, no matter *where* I need to go. smile

If I win the lottery, I think I'll put this project on my TODO list.

Been thinking this over and here is what I would do---get BOTH engines off a P-38 and when you need to back up just swap out engines.

A bone stock trans-axle will hold up just fine if you use a planetary drive in the rear hubs. Our 4 engine 10,000hp tractor had a 9 inch Ford differential that held up just fine.
