Hello All;
I want to put an air conditioner on my 235 Chevrolet engine. Buffalo Enterprises offers a 2 grove harmonic balancer for this engine, price is $250 plus shipping.
Does anyone have experience with this gentleman or his product?

Good product- - - - -WAAAAAYYYYYY overpriced. There are at least two other options to get a 2-sheave crank pulley on a 235.

I think I have a pulley that attaches to the front of your current harmonic balancer with the two bolt holes in it. I'd have to look, but I know I used one of these once with a York compressor and I don't believe I ever got rid of it. Let me know if you're interested in something like that.

7 years ago I purchased the power steering set up Buffalo made that includes the 2 groove damper. I don’t remember what I paid but I would do it again. Easy man to talk to and have follow up convversations.

Damper Dudes sells a 2-groove 235 pulley (3/8" belts, I suppose) - $230 (plus core)

Jerry, you posted a while ago that you might be fabricating one.
If you are selling them, you might want to indicate that here and place a Part/Service For Sale Ad in the Swap Meet?

I got severely criticized by a few people who have nothing better to do and add nothing to this site when I posted those instructions, with pictures, so anyone can make their own parts. I even took a completed 2-sheave damper to homecoming, where it got virtually ignored. Now I build things like that for myself. If I can figure it out, it's not impossible.

I got up in the attic and looked. The bolt-on pulley is still here and at some point I had cleaned it. The size will match exactly the size of pulley on your balancer now, that being about 6~6.25". As I said, I used this with no problems at all with a York compressor for years. It is cast iron, runs a 3/8 inch belt and was balanced (apparently when it was made). The pulley on the York was a 5 inch pulley and the pulley on any of the Sanden/Sankyo/etc compressors you get today will also be a 5 inch pulley. You will need to go buy the two bolts and two lock washers to hold it on, but that won't be a big trick. $25 delivered and I won't be offering this in the parts for sale section because it is yours if you want it.

Now having said this, you know there are adapters out there that will let you run an alternator and a compressor, don't you? The compressor you get will have a 2 groove pulley (if you get one of the newer Sanden/Sankyo/etc...and if you're using the old York, please rethink that idea carefully--it was an antiquated pos and you will need an idler pulley to adjust your belt as that compressor sat on a flat plate or sideways on a flat surface and had no provision for adjustment...plus it would not be able to handle today's refrigerant pressures). The way these work is you buy a belt to go around the balancer pulley you now have, the water pump and the pulley of the compressor. That belt will probably be 44 inches. Then you buy a belt to connect the compressor to the alternator and that belt will probably be 34 inches. Hint: buy the belts at an ACE hardware store. They sell belts made by Mitsuboshi (not Mitsubishi) for farm equipment and they're less expensive and good quality.

Just let me know on the pulley.

Hello again,

I should have been more clear in my application and usage. Chevrolet offered an accessory harmonic balancer for the 235 with three (3) webs and tapped with a bolt hole in each web for an accessory
drive pulley. This balancer would be built like the one for 60-70's 283 and 327 engines. I was hoping that Buffalo Enterprises made one to use with my accessory pulley and compressor. My air conditioner
is all GM, and made for a 235 engine. If all else fails, can a 283-327 balancer be machined to accept my 235 crankshaft, or is there some other option?

tclederman,

Thank you for the tip to Dampner Dudes, this may be my ticket to an accessory drive.

Jon G,

Thanks for the pulley offer, it was very kind of you, but I need an accessory dampener which is designed to accept my factory drive
pulley.

I'm down to my last two FACTORY two groove pulley/dampener and my source is becoming extinct. They were found on the big trucks with air brakes where a separate belt was used to drive the air compressor. Probably will never use them since the a-c compressor/alternator set up that Vintage and others use in their kits are way easier to install and give zero trouble. Made a print out of Jerry's (HRL) double sheave set up and also have made a serpentine set up but all are more work heavy than the compressor/alternator set up in the kits. Picture of each---the serpentine set up shown here was in the early stage but finished ones are trouble free. DO NOT make ones to sell.

Hello Evan;

You state you have two (2) factory two grove pulley/dampners left. Do you have any pictures available or measurements that I could take to
Dampner Dudes for comparison of the units they build. I believe they may be able to configure one out of a 250 engine balancer if I could
supply dimensions. My accessory pulley bolts to the front of the factory supplied dampner.

Here you go---dirt and all. Measurements are the same as the single grove.
