Hi guys. I have a 1954 3100 that I’ll be starting a frame off restoration on soon. However I need help identifying the rear axle that’s currently in the truck. My first clue that it wasn’t normal was the way it is mounted. There are brackets welded Onto the axle, which can pivot separately from the part that is bolted to the leaf spring. From pictures iv seen I believe that the axle is normally just held directly to the leafs with the u bolts. My second sign is that I ordered axle seal covers from 2 separate companies for my truck and neither of them were correct. However it is still a torque tube setup connected to the stock 3 speed. So can anyone identify the axle and the method of mounting? Thanks!

Those spring mount brackets on the rear axle housing are correct - they allow pivoting when the rear springs flex.

"These are bushings with bolts, nut. rear end pivot at leaf spring on a 1/2 ton pickup."

The bolt that goes through the bushing is often hard to remove.
Also, you might have to press out the old bushing from the cast housing, and then press/drive in the new bushing.

Oh wow, that’s a relief to know. We’re all the half tons equipped with these pivot brackets? Looking at pictures online I was seeing them bolted directly to the leaf. Maybe I was seeing mostly aftermarket axles? Thanks for your help!
