As I’ve become more “educated” in things automotive, I like the nicknames that have popped up over time in regards to vehicle engines.
What are your favourite names assigned to engines?

Pontiac of Canada used the 261 motor as their base motor. The valve cover was the same as a Chevy valve cover but without the script. Pontiac called these motors the Strato-six. I always liked that name.
Do the big block Fords have a name? I've heard them called "Windsors" but I thought those were the smaller blocks... What's a "Cleveland" then?
Tim -- There's a whole lingo for Detroit Diesels .... Green Leakers, Driptroits, Rocky Mountain Humming Birds, Green Screamers ... just a few that come to mind. I miss that ole 6-71. It was a fun engine to drive around on top of ... Drove one the other day hooked to a 9-speed RR. Every gear sounded like the Apocalypse ... (Note: I've never actually heard an Apocalypse, I'm just using it as a simile ... in case you were wondering ... )

Furd big blocks have several names, other than "First On Race Day". The old 332/352/390/406/427 engines are called "F.E." engines by Ford guys. Then there's the whole series of 351's- - - -the Windsor is a raised block version of the 260/289/302 line, with a one inch taller deck height to accommodate a longer stroke crankshaft. 351W cylinder heads will bolt onto a 302. The only difference is the fact that 351's use 1/2" diameter head bolts instead of 7/16". Then there's the "351 Cleveland", a bigger block engine with much more efficient cylinder heads than the Windsor. There's also a downsized version of the 400 cubic inch big block called a 351M (modified). The really big-inch Ford engines are the 460's which have a block casting all their own. In some situations back in the late 1970's when the tree huggers were in full panic mode and the EPA was changing their rules on a monthly basis, it was necessary to know where a Ford engine was manufactured in order to get the right tune-up specifications for emission control purposes. Windsor and Cleveland were used to designate the two 351 CU In engines in production at the same time. You had the FE engines, and the 429-460 big block but I don't recall any cool nick names for them Chuck
Hmmmmm- - - -forgot about the 429! The engineering department at Chrysler had an anagram for the V-10 Viper engine while it was under development- - - - -"B.F.M."! No translation necessary! Jerry

The 351 Windsor was made in Windsor Ontario, the Cleveland 351 was made in Cleveland OH.

How about the old Buick “Straight Eight”. Not a name as much as a description but still cool. Saw a couple of them yesterday at a car show.

Nash, Studebaker, Packard, Chrysler, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, and a few others all used straight 8 engines. It was a logical upgrade from a six in terms of power and smoothness in a higher-priced vehicle than the Chevy/Dodge/Plymouth car lines. Ford used V8's instead of sixes, other than a very limited production run of flathead sixes from 1941-51. Jerry

I saw the reference to Chrysler's slant six and can't help but add the Super Six, same slanted 225 with a 2 barrel carb instead of the single.. had one of those and man it wouldn't die, even when abused in a field car for 2 years using pond water coolant (which did freeze bending but not popping the frost plug) and just enough oil to show on the dipstick
