Would like to put a six with inserts in it | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 | 1938-46 truck bellhousing will bolt to 1931 trans and 235. 1942-54 flywheel, if staying 6 volt. I should have documented it, but one of the two front bearing retainers from a 1938-47 truck 4 speed. Front mount will need some modification as the 235 is about 1-3/16" shorter. Bell-housing crossmember or the pan will need to be modified. Throttle linkage Exhaust. If a 1955-62 engine is used, water pump adaption.
I'm sure there is more, but that is a start.

Gm made them from 1936-42. Do a search foe "pickup boxes for coupes" and then read the article by Jim Carter Truck Parts and look at the very good pictures. A good friend had a 37 Chevy business coupe with the pickup box and my Dad hauled his bulldozer service parts in an old Ford coupe with a pickup box. IIRC both Sears and Montgomery Ward offered after market ones that you installed yourself. The Aussies improved on our crude ones with their Utes.

The 1940 used 6 bolts on the crankshaft but were smaller in diameter than the later ones, I believe. Didn't the 38 and 39 use four bolts? | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 | Thanks for catching that truckernix. The flywheel would need to be 1942-54. 1938 and later pressure plate and disc.
It is true that 1940-41 flywheels are 6 bolt, but they are 3/8", not 7/16", that started in 1942. The center hole that pilots on the crank is also larger than 1942-62.
