For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2006 Posts: 237 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2006 Posts: 237 | I am finally down to the front finders on my 64 and have purchased new repair panels for the rear bottom corners. Should I try to just cut this thing in and butt weld the panel or should I try to lap weld it? I do not have the means to put a flange on the finder so it would be an over lap sort of deal. I am pretty sure I can butt weld and it would look OK, but I was worried about the strength of the finder afterwords.
Thanks again!

Butt welding is MUCH harder if you can't get behind it.

I will be able to get to the back side of the repair to all of the area I need to weld except about 2" of it. I plan to use use only about 12" of the patch but do plan to use the entire lower tip. Here is the area that I plan to slice out and repair. I think it would be best to replace entire lower tip. http://www.acousticlaurens.com/michael/MyTruck/slides/IMG_0893.JPG

I don't know if you've seen my webshots pictures, but the folks on the BB tell me I'm a perfectionist on the truck, but you really don't have a problem to worry about, although noboby really likes to use Bondo or others fillers, . They don't look bad at all.
I'd dance in the street naked (sorry for the mental pictures) if thats all the rot the first truck had. | | |
