The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop 1966 c10 paint colors

I have a few questions concerning paint on my 66. I have done a search on the forums, my resto packette, and autocolorlibrary.com and have not found a definitive answer.


1)I need to know what the interior color is for a custom cab 66. The paint chips list a fawn poly, medium fawn poly and charcoal grey poly. The dashboard is a grey, is that the charcoal or medium fawn. I assume the fawn is correct for the rest of the interior.

2) The deluxe steering wheel I have is silver. It is of of a 65 is this correct for 66? And if so should the column match the wheel or say the door panels.

3) Does the door panels have a ivory band or a darker fawn band (medium fawn?)

4) What color was the 327 painted? My 63 service book says gm green but the ones I have seen on the net and at shows are chevy orange. Did they change this in 66?

Here is what I have gathered, this is just from having a few of these trucks, parting out a few & a bunch of factory literature I keep near the toilet for reading material
1. In 66 the dash from door to door was the darker charcoal fawn color, everything else is 22151 med fawn poly, dunno about the plain "fawn"-I have wondered, maybe it was used on Corvairs or Step-Vans
2. some 64's had the column white, but 65 & 66 were fawn-on some trucks the fawn looks more silver than brown, I guess this is due to variances in mix+it being metallic(toward the bottom of the paint gun/can it might get more silvery)
3. the band was ivory, in 64 & 65 the whole inset was ivory
4.The 327 in 64-66 was green from the factory on the original trucks i have seen.

Of course 40 yrs have passed, all plants did things differently, they were mass produced work trucks & I may be crazy so nothing is set in stone.
