Can anyone tell me the weight of an AD series 6400 tilt stake bed truck? I have one I need to move and am looking for a pretty close or accurate weight of it. I know an exact amount will be based on the amount of fuel it has in the tank and so forth, and I know I can go to a CAT scale to weigh it, but I thought maybe someone here has had experience with one and has a fairly close idea of what it would tip the scales at.

Thanks for the help
Gary

Check Page 3 of this document https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/do...hevrolet-Trucks/1949-Chevrolet-Truck.pdf.
Has shipping weight and curb weights for the various models, but may only be for chassis cab configurations. Page 4 does list some equipment weights, but you'll need to weigh it to get a really accurate number.

Old 1949 data books show a range of estimates from ~5400 to ~5900 lbs curb weight for those 49' 6400 series, but the tilt bed isn't clearly listed. Many of those old AD 6400 trucks had aftermarket beds so its hard to tell how much extra steel and stuff added weight.
When I last had my 6400 w/Knapheide hauled I told my friend ... "Well, its about 6000 lbs or so"

Hy 55_2nd_Series, according to my truck data book for the period a 6419 with a high rack body and standard equipment has a shipping weight of 5730 lbs. that is the longest wheelbase truck, hope that helps.

I don't think the factory supplied bed lifts, so it is likely aftermarket. My 50 Chevy COE, model 5700 has an aftermarket grain bed with an aftermarket lift. The truck weighs 7450 lbs, as that lift is massive. Factory literature will tell you the cab and chassis weight but to get an accurate weight you will have to get it on a scale.

klhansen- Thanks for the link and info.

Justhorsenround- I am helping someone move their truck, so I don't have the wheelbase dimension off hand, but I know it has a 13' bed on it.

Soggy- That SWAG (scientific wild [censored]ed guess) method is what I use frequently as well, and doesn't get me in trouble too often. I figured I would add about 1,000 lbs. or so for the bed to cover bases.

3B- Thanks for the information. That does help.

Lightholder's Dad- That's about what I was thinking it might weigh. I seem to recall from previous posts here that the later Task Force 6400 series with tilt beds came in at about 8500+/- pounds. I know that is comparing apples and oranges, but I was hoping the '49 didn't exceed that for trailer capability purposes.

Thanks to all who helped and responded so quickly. Your information is much appreciated.
