My trucks cigarette lighter socket does not have any wires attached to it. Can someone tell me how to hook it up so it will work correctly? How many wires and where do they attach to for power?
Thanks,
Spot

You only need one wire, unless it has a light. The wire plugs on the center pin of the lighter and goes to any source for batt voltage. It grounds thru the socket to the dash.
Not sure which truck this is for but my '64 has a spade on the fuse box (lower left side...mine is labled for this purpose) to power the cigarette lighter. I just made a new wire harness for mine as my old cigarette lighter wire was somehow spliced into the original harness. I had an old plastic connector (looks like original) that I put a new female spade connector end into...soldered wire to it and on the other end I solder a small loop connector that will fit over the screw on the back of the lighter.
If you have the original-style illuminated lighter, it would be wired as described in this 1951 accessory installation manual. The lighter lamp wire to the tail-lamp terminal on the light switch, and the element/case wire to a terminal on the rear of the light switch.
I used a small round crimp on connector, nut washer and lock washer. Put some shrink wrap tape on it and make sure it won't ground. It gets hot down there. I don't know if that's the right answer but mine worked for a few decades.
Just an add on to this lighter thread. I've seen negative comment posted in the past referring to the lighters as just decoration or obsolete objects now that most sane people of average intelligence don't smoke anymore. But......they are handy obviously for powering up those modern devices like phone chargers and GPS. I've kept 'Old Blue', my '50 stock right down to the original 6v system and found that many of those can be powered up from a 6v power source. I'm presently using a TomTom GPS in Old Blue with the original 12v car charger that it came with and it works just fine. DG
